When you start the level, head to the back of your house. Open the chest to get your walking-stick. You need to open the chest before you're allowed to leave the house. As you're exiting the house, equip your walking-stick and long-jump toward the door.
Once you've exited the house, head down the hill to Sandyman. There are some kids who want to play hide-and-seek, but you can avoid their cutscene by going behind the nearby tree.
